"Close To You" used a beat popularized by the group Soul II Soul that appeared on many songs of the era. The song reached number-one on the US Billboard Hot 100 on 6 October 1990, reached number 2 on the ARIA Charts in Australia and number 7 on the UK Singles Chart.
